Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and of abstinence for the Church.

Catholics aged 18-59 are bound to observe a fast on this day.  To meet the definition of a fast, one is permitted to eat no more than one full meal and two meals that together do not to equal a full meal.

Catholics aged 14+ are bound to abstain from meat on this day.

It is a grave sin to neglect this duty.
